A Success Story in Jordan

On February 21, 2023, good news came unexpectedly to WFWP Jordan. The public school top performers in their grade and class had been announced and three of them were from a large public school in Rusaifa where there are six to seven classes per grade, with 40-50 students per class. The announcement was joyfully received because these were students who had been studying at WFWP Jordan’s after-school classes for many years.
WFWP Jordan has been operating its study center in Rusaifa since 2016. In WFWP’s classes, the students are grouped by level, starting from the most elementary. For the first year or two when the center opened, WFWP volunteers helped only the elementary level students, but despite every effort it was difficult for them to become more serious and disciplined with their education and to improve. WFWP then decided to include some students who were better performing and motivated in hope that they would become good examples to the others. These students came regularly and were themselves improving in their schoolwork. The three students who were recognized for their performance this year had been some of the most motivated in WFWP’s program:
Ahmad Zuhair: Ahmad is 15 years old and is in his 10th year. He has been attending WFWP’s classes for about five years. In the beginning, he was a diligent student, yet he was receiving lower level results in his classes. This year, however, he received an average score of 96 in the final exam for the January 2023 semester! The WFWP volunteers were all very happy for him. He was second in his class and second in the whole school’s grade. Ahmad also loves soccer and he always participates in soccer practice. As a director of the school, Mrs. Fusayo Irikura, President of WFWP Jordan, visited his family several times. They are a good family.
Ahmad Mazhar: Ahmad is 13 years old and is in his first year of junior high school. He has been coming to WFWP’s classes for five years. He is a serious, obedient and nice student who studies well. His grades were average at the beginning, but this year he was first in his class and third in the whole grade with an average of 90 points. Ahmad lives with his father and stepmother and he has many brothers and sisters. His home situation, while unusual for the Middle East (divorce is rare), has not affected him in his studies.
Abdallah Asal: Abdallah is 10 years old and is in the fifth grade. He is very lively, curious and willing to participate in many activities. He has been attending WFWP’s classes for about two and a half years. He began in the upper medium ability level and this year he received an average score of 97 points, which is the top in his class and the top in the whole grade! He is a very honest and kind boy.
WFWP Jordan was really happy that these three students who have been attending WFWP’s classes performed at the top of their grade and class.
At the educational center, WFWP continues to work tirelessly together with our teachers. There have been many challenges: arson, revenge attacks, injuries to children and no time to rest. WFWP also continuously does home visits.
More than anything else, WFWP Jordan was able to do this thanks to the steady and unchanging support of the people of Japan over a truly long period of time. WFWP Jordan is also very grateful for the people of America, England and Italy, who also sent their generous support.
