Celebrating the Launch of Regenerative Schools: Shaping a Sustainable Future

In a momentous event that gathered educators, community leaders and passionate students from a school in Juan Rozo in Acacias – Meta, Colombia, the launch of Regenerative Schools marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of a regenerative future. Launched on May 11, 2023, this groundbreaking initiative aims to reshape the education landscape by integrating regenerative principles into the very fabric of our educational institutions. WFWP launched the program for one thousand students in the school with an unwavering commitment to nurturing ecological awareness, holistic learning and community engagement. Regenerative Schools heralds a new era of education that empowers students to become catalysts for positive change.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops and interactive sessions that exemplified the spirit of regenerative education. With our holistic solution-based approach, WFWP implemented the “Silva digestive bales” method to manage organic waste in the school and the community. Mr. Angel Gustavo Rivera, Founder of the nonprofit organization “Waste for life” (Residuos para la vida) provided the first training in how to make digestive bales in the school. There were 40 students, 3 teachers and 4 community leaders from environmental fields in the municipality who participated, such as Ms. Gloria Ines Zambrano from the women’s board of directors from the municipality who is in charge of the environmental area. All were trained to implement the “Silva digestive bales” method. With these first trainees WFWP will transfer the knowledge to the entire school community, including parents and families, throughout the rest of the year.
From permaculture design activities to systems thinking exercises, attendees experienced firsthand the power of integrating regenerative principles into the learning process. The emphasis on experiential learning and community engagement resonated deeply, as participants recognized the profound impact that collaboration and collective action can have on addressing pressing global challenges.
The launch of Regenerative Schools also served as a platform for networking and collaboration among educators, community leaders and organizations committed to regenerative thinking. Through the launch, WFWP connected with a university, UNAD, and different organizations who want to receive the training and collaborate with the project. The event facilitated meaningful connections, fostering a supportive network of change-makers dedicated to sharing knowledge, resources and best practices. From lively discussions to brainstorming sessions, the collective energy and enthusiasm demonstrated the potential for transformation within the educational landscape.
As the event concluded, the organizers emphasized their commitment to continuous development and improvement. Regenerative Schools will actively seek partnerships and collaboration with like-minded organizations, experts and practitioners to ensure the evolution and refinement of their curriculum and practices. The feedback and insights gained from the launching event will be instrumental in shaping the future direction of Regenerative Schools, fostering a learning environment that adapts and responds to the evolving needs of students and the wider community.
