Education on Well-Being and Health in Schools (WFWP São Tomé)
Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) São Tomé and Príncipe, conducted an education session at the Vila Fernanda School, on the outskirts of the country's capital on May 6, 2022. The theme chosen for this session was “Body hygiene and underwear care.” For this, the WFWP invited a nurse, who is the mother of two students who attended that school. When she found out about the WFWP’s activity at her children's school, she was very excited and expressed a desire to also collaborate with the initiative.
The WFWP São Tomé and Príncipe started the character education project in schools in 2022, for students aged 11 to 15 years old. Education is normally held on the last Friday of each month. Previous topics in the program include Study Methodology for School Success, Give and Take Action, Magic Words, Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse as well as education for Alcohol and Drugs.
For the next session, the WFWP invited the superintendent of the National Police, who will be talking about articles prohibited from being carried in schools, such as sharp and pointed objects, which can be used to commit acts of offense or violence.
The students are very engaged, asking questions and giving opinions. The school board is very pleased with the project and wants it to continue in the next academic year. WFWP São Tomé will give a monetary contribution so that the students who stood out the most in terms of behavior and grades can receive prizes such as school supplies and candies.
For the next academic year, WFWP São Tomé intends to extend the project to all districts of the country, in an effort to educate as many students as possible and build up model citizens.
