Women's Federation for World Peace Korea made a significant donation to support the building of two libraries in Cambodia in 2022. When WFWP Korea members visited Cambodia in May to choose the beneficiaries, around 30 schools in the target district submitted applications. Two schools were ultimately chosen after taking into account their environments and goals: Kou Loab Primary School in Kou Loab commune and Anh Chanh Primary School in Da commune, Chetr Borey district. A restroom was also constructed outside the library.
The Royal School of Administration (RSA) and WFWP Cambodia provided local support for the groundbreaking ceremony, construction process, and opening ceremony. Despite numerous logistical challenges, the construction began in June and was completed in December 2022.
The King of Cambodia, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni presented a medal and a commendation letter which was received by Dr. Julia H. Moon, the International President of WFWPI. The Royal School of Administration also presented a certificate of gratitude to WFWP Korea and thirteen other sponsoring organizations. In addition, the Chetr Borey district presented certificates of appreciation and letters of gratitude to the members of WFWP Korea.
The Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Civil Service who is also the President of RSA, H.E. Youk Bunna, and other ministry employees, along with WFWP Cambodia, invited representatives from the WFWP Korea, HJ Magnolia Global Medical Foundation (HJM), Aewon Volunteer organization, Sun Moon University professor, and other organizations to the ceremony stage. Five hundred students from the Anh Chanh school were among the 1200 attendees of the inaugural ceremony
deputy director generals from, national assembly-senate relations, and inspection ministries made the trip from Phnom Penh to congratulate Dr. Moon on receiving her medal. Additional dignitaries took part, including the Chief and chair of the Dar commune council, the Governor and chair of the Chetr Borey district, the Deputy Governors of the Kratie province, and many others.
Speaking first was H.E. Bunna Youk from the Ministry of Civil Service, Dr. Sang Kyun Kim from HJM, and Dr. Moon from WFWP. After Dr. Moon was presented with the honor, a ceremony to cut the ribbon was held after which certificates of gratitude were also given to the representatives of each invited Korean organization.
The Anh Chanh faculty and students, as well as the citizens of Da Commune, were overjoyed to see the wonderful library. Even the provincial and district governors complimented the beauty and strength of the buildings. It certainly holds out the possibility of improving education and community development on a larger scale for the entire region.
