Written by Monica Weglarz
On November 10, Spain’s WFWP chapter hosted a concert and Bridge of Peace (BOP) event in Madrid. BOP ceremonies are facilitated to reconcile the troubled pasts of various peoples and to learn from the past in uniting and building a better future for all of humanity. In this instance, WFWP fostered this healing opportunity to the Filipino and Spanish communities based in Madrid.
These two peoples have experienced decades of conflict, colonial rule, and cultural clashes. This event was coordinated with a powerful and moving performance by Sally Pinkas, a Tel Aviv, Israel native and she is a professor at Dartmouth University. Pinkas played various piano pieces by Filipino composers throughout the evening.
To conclude the event, she was awarded the Ambassador of Peace Certificate for her critical role in acting as a facilitator in this BOP ceremony. This event was a small step in the right direction of forgiveness between these two communities.
Through myriads of steps like these, the planet will be overwhelmed with love and true amends will be made between peoples who experienced a plethora of trauma and pain in the past.
