On August 24, WFWP Malaysia organized a half-day visit to the Sivananda Home in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor. There were 23 volunteers, which included WFWP members, students from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and members of the community. Located in a small town about 70km from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, the group of enthusiastic volunteers had to travel for more than an hour by car to reach the orphanage.
Upon arrival, Mr. Arumainathan, the Chairman of the home together with the children welcomed all the volunteers warmly. The President of WFWP Malaysia, Mrs. S. Shobana, inspired the children and volunteers with her success story and words of encouragement in her remarks.
The children had a very fun and exciting time through the activities conducted. They especially enjoyed the energetic Zumba exercise, led by a local famous Zumba teacher. This was followed by a craft-making session to assemble a Korean Drum. There was also an interesting games session whereby the children were divided into two groups to complete certain tasks while being blindfolded. In another game, the children were requested to dress up a model by creating accessories out of plastic bags.
These interactive sessions provide an opportunity for the children to unleash their creativity on top of developing their communication and leadership skills.
Mr. Arumainathan shared about the challenges faced in running the home and expressed his gratitude to WFWP Malaysia for the love, care, and guidance given to the children.
