WFWPI Global Humanitarian Aid- Relief Distribution to Typhoon Odette (Rai) Victims (WFWP Philippines)
The Philippines was struck by a super typhoon Rai, commonly known in the Philippines as typhoon Odette on December 16, 2021. It made nine landfalls in the areas of Visayas and Mindanao affecting 11 regions in the country, leaving a massive distraction to the areas being hit.
Many houses were flooded, submerged and even washed away by the raging water, and others were totally wrecked by the strong winds, leaving countless families homeless and forced to take shelter in evacuation centers. Total blackout resulted in no water supply, lack of safe drinking water, limited communication due to destroyed cell sites and inaccessible roads, which resulted in family members from afar not being able to contact their families from the affected areas.
In response to this, WFWP Philippines organized a fundraiser for the victims of Typhoon Rai. Through this, we were able to distribute food packs to the areas which were strongly hit like some barangays (villages) in Roxas, Palawan. This was where the typhoon made its last landfall in the Philippines.
The relief distribution took place from December 29 to 30, 2021. It was a collaborative effort of the WFWP Philippines together with the partner organizations: IAYSP Palawan Chapter, Universal Peace Federation and Familly Federation for World Peace and Unification. A total of 800 food packs were distributed to the typhoon victims.
A second relief operation was held at Mabuhay, Sison, Surigao del Norte on January 4, 2022. This was headed by the WFWP Philippines National President, Mrs. Almera Grace Mayo, herself. There were 150 food packs distributed to the families in the area.
The third relief operation was held in Negros Oriental on January 11, 2022, where 50 households were provided with food packs. This was made possible through the coordinator in the area. The recipients were overjoyed upon receiving the food packs and were very grateful to the donors.
