GWPN Korea, Japan USA: A Unified Korea - Special Seminar and Mini-Talk Show

Join us for the first GWPN Korea, Japan USA Webinar of the year under the theme A Unified Korea - Special Seminar and Mini-Talk Show on “Crashing Landing on You” on Tuesday, January 18th at 8pm EST.

WFWP USA invites you to a Global Women's Peace Network Forum series on "A Unified Korea," hosted alongside WFWP Korea and WFWP Japan.

Our previous virtual programs featured distinguished women (and men) panelists from both the North and the South, living in Japan or the United States, who shed light on possible "Seeds of Hope" for a Unified Korea, as well as how to "Rise Above Challenges" leading up to a unified Korea, and possible obstacles to prepare for afterward.

This year, we decided to take a whole new approach to this topic, and kick off our series with a special seminar and mini-talk show based on the third highest-rated South Korean TV dramas in cable television: Crash Landing On You! It highlights the issue of the North/South Korean divide from a human interest perspective based on a most heart-wrenching love story between a man from the North and a woman from the South. This 16 episode drama also became popular as it details life in North Korea in a most real yet non-political way, and opens many points for discussion.

We are pleased to present a special interview with the assistant screenwriter, Mr. Kwak Moon Wan, who will show video clips and commentaries on the production of this remarkable drama that has reached millions already in Asia and is catching on in the West.

It is about a successful South Korean businesswoman and chaebol heiress who, while paragliding in Seoul, South Korea, is swept up in a sudden storm, crash-lands in the North Korean portion of the DMZ, and meets an army captain in the Korean People's Army who decides he will help her hide. Over time, they fall in love, despite the divide and dispute between their respective countries.

We recommend you watch the drama series on Netflix before the seminar (have your kleenex box nearby), so you can ask questions and truly appreciate the 1.5-hour session with Mr. Kwak Moon Wan.

We look forward to joining together as an international community on Tuesday, January 18, 2021, from 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM EST. The principal language will be in Korean, with interpretation available in English and Japanese.
