While the UN continues to pursue its founding purpose to end the scourge of war and establish peace, there is the risk of losing progress without intergenerational cooperation. United Nations Day is held on October 24 every year to celebrate the ratification of the UN Charter and reflect upon the founding purpose of the United Nations.
To commemorate the 76th Anniversary of the UN's founding, Women’s Federation for World Peace International (WFWPI) and the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) will host a Virtual Forum on the topic of "The UN Dream: Intergenerational Cooperation and our Journey to Peace," featuring the voices of leaders from both the younger and elder generation, as they discuss their challenges and hopes in realizing the UN's dream for peace. This webinar co-sponsored by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Philippines to the United Nations in New York will take place on Friday, October 22, at 9 A.M. EDT.
WFWPI proposes this Virtual Forum to be a platform that will be structured as an intergenerational dialogue between the elder and younger generations. This Forum will be a space where inspiration and wisdom will be exchanged through keynote addresses from leaders of both generations on the role and legacy of the UN, highlighting the significance of intergenerational cooperation. This will be followed by a dialogue where these leaders will explore the tension that exists as the dream and founding principles of the UN are bequeathed to a new generation of leaders in our journey to realizing a world of sustainable peace.
The program will include Opening Remarks by H.E. Enrique A. Manalo, Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to the United Nations; a Keynote Address by Dr. Rima Salah, Former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations; as well as a Keynote Address by Ms. Tarina Ahuja, Co-founder and President of the Greater Good Initiative; followed by an intergenerational dialogue which consists of the keynote speakers and representatives from the co-sponsoring organizations: Mr. Miilhan Stephens, President of YSP USA; and Ms. Katarina Connery, Vice-President of WFWP USA, followed by a Q&A session and Closing Remarks by Ms. Merly Barlaan, Deputy Director of the WFWPI Offices for UN Relations.
