On January 22, 2022, WFWP Kenya held their first annual Tulia (Chill) Youth Event. This is a program that is comprised of character education, youth leadership and talent show programs.
The venue was the eastern Part of Nairobi in an area called Kayole Matopeni, which is one of the most overpopulated estates with sprawling slums and many poor families inhabiting the area.
The goal was to reach out and give them a platform to learn from each other and also identify their talents which range from music, acting, spoken word and poetry. The venue was the Christian Restoration Ministry auditorium and the teams represented were from 10 of the surrounding homes.
Many youths in this area are jobless and unfortunately, many also fall into the traps of drug and alcohol abuse. But, there are many youths who are talented and also volunteer for community development programs. They were very happy to participate in the program.
The program started with the introduction of the vision and mission of Women’s Federation for World Peace by Dr. Susan Kone, the chapter’s Chairperson and the WFWP International Vice President for Africa. The Youths were overjoyed that this kind of program was organized for them in their community.
During the talent show that afternoon, all the youth groups were given a chance to showcase their talents and it was very enjoyable. The closing speech was given by the leader of the youths. He thanked WFWP Kenya for thinking of them and also sponsoring such a wonderful program. He stressed the importance and the need of continuing these programs to nurture the youth so that they can all reach their full potential. A resolution was made to hold follow-up programs in the coming months.
