Celebrating the Day of Knowledge and the start of the new academic year, WFWP of Ukraine held a cultural and environmental project named "Blooming Garden, Blooming Country," in Semipolki village, Kyiv. WFWP Ukraine has been working with the Semipolki village administration for many years, holding different educational, cultural and charity projects there. One of the teachers from the administration even received WFWP-Ukraine’s annual “Woman of the Year” Award, as an outstanding teacher of Ukraine. WFWP Ukraine also cooperates with five other villages surrounding Semipolki.
On September 2, 2021, WFWP Ukraine members, together with six young volunteers from Youth and Students for Peace (YSP), went to the village school to plant the schoolyard with beautiful trees, bushes and flowers. Nuts, pear and persimmon trees, boxwood and Japanese spirea bushes, seedlings of hosts and bubbles, white and rose hydrangeas, irises, lilacs were planted in the schoolyard. The school administration, including the principal, headteachers and teachers, as well as the school students joined the project, planting, giving interviews and supported the action in many other ways.
After planting, the project participants attended a meeting with the school administration and students. WFWP Ukraine was welcomed warmly and thanked by Mr. Borys Grigoriev, Semipolki Village School Principal. Mrs. Tetiana Kotseba, WFWP Ukraine leader, congratulated all the students on the Day of Knowledge and gave letters of gratitude to some active parents for their participation in the charity activity.
The event was filmed and highlighted by local media and Kyiv mass media, with a live stream from the venue.
Some local garden companies supported the project by providing seedlings and plants.
The action of planting trees at the beginning of the new academic year was promoted by the Kyiv governor. As a result, many schools in the Kyiv region were involved in the beautiful and noble action of caring for the environment and advancing youth leadership.
We will also have a similar project to "Blooming Garden, Blooming Country" on September 30, in some of the schools in Kyiv City. In addition, to continue our cooperation with the village, we are planning to hold a family festival for families from Semipolki and five other surrounding villages on October 14.
