Written by: WFWP Malaysia

On May 4, 2024, WFWP Malaysia was pleased to join hands with the Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the United Nations (UN) UKM to organize a one-day visit to the Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Openhands Fellowship in Kajang, Selangor.

The home currently provides shelter for 13 children from broken families. The principal of the home, Madam Rajeswari, affectionately known as Aunty Rajesh, warmly welcomed the 32 volunteers and expressed gratitude to the organizers for arranging this educational program for the children.

Madam Lina Cheng, President of WFWP Malaysia, expressed appreciation to ALSA for involving WFWP in the program and encouraged the youth and children to participate in volunteer service, emphasizing its benefits in community engagement, self-esteem, and purpose.

One of the sessions, led by Mr. Simon Teo, a certified counselor, featured an engaging story-telling session titled “I’m the best,” aimed at promoting self-actualization among the children. Following this, the children were paired up to identify their skills and talents.

The children enjoyed a lively afternoon of handicrafts, including painting brick bears and creating magic beads, fostering creativity and teamwork between volunteers and children. Active participation was observed, accompanied by joyful singing. The children's happiness was further amplified by gifts sponsored by the organizers and a special birthday celebration for May babies.

We thank ALSA UKM for the wonderful collaboration in bringing a joyful and meaningful day for both the volunteers and children.
