Celebration of International Children’s Day (WFWP Argentina)
Written by: Norma Alcaraz
WFWP Tucumán, a province in the northern region of Argentina, together with other organizations of the civil society, organized a celebration commemorating International Children’s Day. According to the UN calendar, it is on November 20, but in Argentina, it is celebrated on the third Sunday of August every year. This year, International Children’s Day was held on August 15, 2021.
Bit by bit, we are starting to integrate into normal life again, as we take careful precautions for COVID-19. Our chapter really wanted to commemorate Children’s Day for the purpose of bringing smiles to children who were born with scarce resources and show them how precious they are. We went to the village of Los Ralos, in the province of Tucumán, where together with the Civil Association “Encounter” and the “Voluntary Firemen” of Los Ralos, we invited 100 children to celebrate their special day.
We truly wanted was to make the children happy, so we tried really hard thinking about how to organize activities that would be attractive to them. From 2 p.m until 7 p.m, the children were able to participate in various activities coordinated by clowns. They enjoyed unique games such as jumping on inflatable rings. They laughed endlessly on the elastic bed and participated in a raffle. We prepared surprise presents for the children who competed in a sports activity. After the activities, everybody enjoyed chocolate milk with pastries, cakes and biscuits. The children and adults celebrated with great joy and thanked the institutions for such an effort. Everything seemed brighter that day and we were able to momentarily forget about the pandemic that is currently afflicting humanity.
The staff had the opportunity to get together and start planning future activities. On the same day, we also started a community radio, that will be used to broadcast our proposals, activities and teachings based on universal values. We are excited to announce that WFWP has its own section in the program.
We want to express our gratitude to all of our friends that entrusted us to make this event possible, especially WFWP Japan for their unconditional support.
