Green Solar Energy for the African Villages Project Sponsored by Giving for Good:
Giving for Good International (GFGI) was founded by WFWPI’s Vice President, Dr. Sun Jin Moon, and sponsors environmental projects around the world. WFWP Kenya was among the African countries which received the GFGI Climate Action Grant in 2021.
The first event for the Green Solar Energy for the African Villages Project was held in Transmara County, during the International Day of Peace on September 25, 2021. Here, 33 households benefited from receiving solar lamps. After receiving the lamps, the women in the villages sang and danced in praise of GFGI for remembering them in their remote villages. Many homes there do not have electricity and normally after sunset, the whole village is thrown into total darkness.
This second solar lamp distribution event was held during the International Day of Rural Women on October 22, 2021, in Kisii County. In Kisii County, 36 households received solar energy lamps.
The third project was held during World Science Day for Peace and Development on November 9, 2021, in Bungoma County. In this county, 33 households benefited from the lamps.
The villages and families sponsored by GFGI were all so appreciative of the solar lamps and they promised to continue uplifting the women in their communities and contribute to reducing carbon emissions, thereby improving the environment.
The social impact from this Green Solar Energy project is numerous, as all the recipients were overjoyed and thanked the GFGI, as the solar lamps have changed their lives and their environment drastically!
The solar lamps have improved the lives of the families who no longer need to use kerosene lamps or firewood, which negatively harms their health. Green energy solar lamps are improving the lives of families and communities by creating a clean environment for their well-being, peace and happiness.
Green Solar Energy for the African Villages Project 2nd Phase Sponsored by WFWPI:
The first phase of the pilot project sponsored by WFWPI was implemented in October 2020, in Wote, Makueni County with the coordination of Mrs. Patricia Aketch. It was a success and over 40 homes benefitted from the solar generators and solar lamps.
The Member of the County Government Assembly thanked WFWPI for the provisions of the lamps. These lamps changed people’s lives completely and mothers have been singing their praises to the co-founder of WFWPI, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, whom they now call the “ Mother of Light,” as this project had brought light and happiness to their homes.
The second phase of the project sponsored by the WFWPI was held in Kajiado, in October 2021, during the International Day of Poverty Eradication. The impact was truly amazing as the Masaai families in rural Kenya could benefit from the lamps which lightened their Manyattas (traditional houses). The WFWP Team was well received by the Kajiado County Director from the Ministry of Gender, Mrs. Eve Merin and her Deputy. The families who are mainly herders valued the lamps very much and the children could not hide their joy of receiving extra light in their homes which made their lives much brighter. The lamps also help tackle major health issues which are triggered by the use of kerosene and firewood. The Director of the Noleto Latia Women Group appreciated the gift of light which they all agreed will raise the living standards of families and children in their communities.
