WFWP Africa Holds Successful Virtual General Assembly

The Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Africa held its Virtual General Assembly on January 25, 2025, via Zoom. The event, which began at 3:00 PM GMT, attracted 98 connections and over 100 participants. Under the theme “Women in Action – Shaping a Peaceful Society,” the assembly provided a dynamic platform to discuss key initiatives for the year ahead.
Moderated by Mrs. May Gaye, WFWP Africa's PR and Communications Director, the program featured esteemed speakers and presenters who shared valuable insights into WFWPI’s 2025 global vision, regional projects, and upcoming activities. The session opened with a prayer led by Mrs. Maria Kadima from the Regional Family Federation for World Peace, followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Susan Kone, WFWP Africa Regional President.
A highlight of the assembly was the participation of WFWP International President, Mrs. Moriko Hori, who delivered the opening remarks. She introduced WFWPI’s 2025 global themes, which include Women, Peace, and Security; Women's Leadership through the Global Women’s Peace Network; Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability; Global Development, Aid, and Services. She also provided key dates for WFWPI programs in 2025.
The audience enjoyed two musical performances by Ivorian singer Ms. Blessing Shade. Dr. Kone then outlined WFWP Africa’s Action Plan and shared insights on WFWP Africa’s UN membership efforts, reinforcing its commitment to global peace initiatives. A special video presentation recognized outstanding volunteers of 2024, including Evelyn Chimfwembe, Marthe Whyte, Aimee Kabore, Imaculee Yacotou, Reinie Laetitia Dakuo, Jacqueline Mutewa, and Georgette Umubyeyi, for their exemplary service. Additionally, a short film showcased WFWP Africa’s impactful activities and achievements over the past year.
Ms. Kwan-sun Precious Ngobar presented the Young Professionals Regional Initiative and the 2025 Project, while MHPN Director Mrs. Evelyn Chimfwembe provided an update on the Mother’s Heart Peace Network activities, which reached over 10,000 women through various programs in 2024.
A motivational speech by Mrs. Marthe Whyte, West Africa Subregional Director, introduced the Membership Drive Program and the 2024 Special Membership Certificates, emphasizing membership growth as a priority for 2025. Mrs. Flory Ledwaba, Regional Secretary-General, highlighted the Global Women’s Peace Network and the Bridge of Peace Program, which foster unity and collaboration.
The assembly also featured presentations on three successful projects:
Dr. Chioma Machebe (University of Nigeria) discussed Nigeria’s Microcredit Program, which empowers women in rural areas by providing access to financial support.
Hon. Erinah Rutangye (East Africa Subregional Director) presented Uganda’s Tomato Garden Project, which supports WFWP programs through self-sustaining agricultural initiatives and strengthens membership engagement.
Mrs. Margaret Nkhoma (WFWP Zambia) showcased efforts to combat child malnutrition in Zambia through a feeding program.
In her concluding remarks, Mrs. Moriko Hori encouraged members to stay committed to their mission. The assembly closed with remarks from Mrs. Bernadette Fogue, Director of Africa Education.
The WFWP Africa General Assembly served as an inspiring platform for members to connect, share and strategize for the future. With a clear action plan, renewed dedication and a strong network of committed women, WFWP Africa is poised for another impactful year of service, peacebuilding and women’s empowerment across the continent.
