On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the residence for the elderly “San José” received a special visit from three Ambassadors for Peace, who dedicated their time and skills to bringing joy and connection to the residents. The initiative, led by Ms. Mery Salcede, Ms. Doris Parrado and Ms. Eunice Caro, aimed to foster intergenerational bonding through art and craftwork.

The ambassadors engaged with the elderly in a meaningful activity—creating small woven handbags, a traditional and therapeutic craft that allowed participants to share stories, laughter, and moments of creativity. This initiative is part of the broader mission of the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), which promotes peace, social cohesion and empowerment through service-oriented projects.

Ms. Luisa Janeth Gomez Hernandez, the director of the elderly home, expressed gratitude for the visit, highlighting its positive impact: “Our residents always cherish these encounters. Beyond the beautiful handicrafts, what they appreciate the most is the company, the conversations and the sense of being valued and included.”

During the visit, the ambassadors also took the opportunity to listen to the life experiences of the elderly, reinforcing the importance of intergenerational dialogue. Many residents shared memories of their own youth, recalling traditional weaving techniques and cultural craftsmanship that have been passed down for generations.

The event concluded with a heartfelt gathering where both the ambassadors and residents exchanged words of appreciation. The handmade handbags, each unique in design and color, became not just a craft but a symbol of love and solidarity.

The visit to “San José” reflects the continued commitment of WFWP and its Global Women Peace Ambassadors to build bridges of understanding and companionship. Their dedication to serving the elderly through creative and meaningful activities is a testament to the power of small gestures in fostering a culture of peace.
