On March 8, WFWP Nigeria celebrated International Women’s Day at the Peace Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria.
A spectrum of leaders (which included both men and women) were in attendance and the theme of the event was, “Gender Equality in homes.” The speakers called for the repealing of laws that were against women's equal participation in all the fields- which included leadership positions.
The National adviser WFWP Nigeria, Mrs. Jackie Ogurie, stressed that there was a need to uphold human rights as a condition of gender parity.
The FFWPU sub-Regional Director Rev, George Ogurie called for unity and harmony starting from the families as a panacea towards addressing challenges facing the country.
The Guest speaker, Mrs. Maria Emmanuel, said in her speech that there is a need for equal education for every child- noting that it will empower the child and especially girls to contribute her quota in the National Building.
The project coordinator, Mrs. Margaret Kikunda, explained that Love and Harmony should start in the family where equal sharing of responsibilities should be practiced to discourage discriminatory tendencies.
