Youth Seminar on International Youth Day
Written by: Letecia Cueme
August 12 celebrated the United Nations International Youth Day. To commemorate this day, WFWP Chad organized a 3-Day Youth Seminar on character education under the theme: “Youth and Leadership.” The seminar was held from August 12-14, 2021, at Lycée Feminine National High School. About 110 students from multiple schools attended each day.
“The result was very satisfactory, well received and understood by the participants” as stated by Mr. Ondole Nicolas, a school coordinator, who was also in attendance. The majority of the youth participants requested additional seminars to finish the whole chapter of the character education module. Another recommendation from the participants was to continue teaching this material to youth all over the country. There was one student who even wrote a poem of gratitude to the organizer and lecturer.
The students who attended are composed of the top five from their class, in grades 10 through 12. They were from six different national high schools and some private schools in the ten districts of the capital of N’Djamena.
The topics that were discussed were the following: What is the meaning of goodness? Where should I learn to become a good person? How does goodness create peace?
The main staff organizing the seminar was Digmi Badjoua, WFWP Chad President; Abaza Bambongo Liliane (SG), coordinator; Letecia Cueme, WFWP adviser; and Ndig-gomi Sidonie, Treasurer. There were four lecturers in total given by Baïmi Badjoua, University Professor; Kunda Diasonama Béatrice, teacher; Djanketou Badjoua, teacher; and Patalé Keumaye, a specialist on Social Development.
Here is the testimony from Mahamat Hamid Yakhoub, a youth participant.
“The seminar was great, well organized and I truly appreciated the content. I love to attend this kind of seminar and would like to learn more. The lecturers were so great. One suggestion would be that the lecturer reaches out to the youth outside of the district schools since there are a lot of students who would find this content useful. The country will change for the better if we “live for the sake of others” and love one another. I thank WFWP.”
The next step is the follow-up. We have created a Whatsapp group to maintain contact with the students, while we plan and prepare the resources for the next seminar. In the meantime, we plan to invite the students to attend the Youth Students for Peace inauguration to be held on August 28, 2021.
