International Women's Month Celebrations (WFWP Philippines)
The Women’s Federation for World Peace Philippines celebrated International Women’s Month uniquely throughout its respective chapters during the month of March.
On March 19, the WFWP Rizal chapter conducted a one-day educational development seminar attended by the hardworking volunteers of Mother’s Heart Network. This was held at the International Peace Leadership College bearing the theme, “Women Working Towards Human Conflict Resolution Through Understanding the Principles of Peace.” The participants learned about the Five Universal Principles of Peace and afterward had a tour around the school campus.
On March 23, the WFWP Bohol chapter led by Ms. Christine Rose Bulayo, the acting WFWP Bohol Chairman, conducted an orientation seminar for the incoming women’s fed officers in Carmen, Bohol. Ms. Bulayo presented to the women leaders the vision, mission and goals of WFWP as well as introduced past and current activities and projects. The women leaders who attended the orientation were enlightened and inspired to know more about WFWP.
On March 25, the President of WFWP Philippines, Mrs. Almera Grace Mayo led the mangrove planting in Mindanao and highlighted the importance of the wetlands, which support ecological functions and provide valuable elements—water and fish, support agriculture, purify water, treat waste, and provide protection from floods and storms—for human survival. Stakeholders in Misamis Oriental protect the environment and conserve marine life in Macajalar Bay by growing mangrove trees and sustaining the availability of its seedlings.
March 26 was also another busy day for the Mother’s Heart Network in Rodriguez as they spent the afternoon together with their broomsticks and dustpan cleaning their streets and front yards. The mothers happily spent the afternoon enjoying each other’s company and at the same time inspiring other women in the community to also participate in the street cleaning.
On March 27, WFWP Isabela fed meals to 30 children in Barangay Macugay, Luna, Isabela, upholding the theme “Food is Love.” Beautiful smiles were seen from the children as they were happily eating the nutritious food prepared by the women leaders. In addition, earlier in the month, the WFWP Isabela chapter also conducted a planting activity for the environment, which included planting 20 grapes and 6 avocado seedlings. This activity was led by Mrs. Pilar Cabacungan, the WFWP regional coordinator, together with WFWP volunteers.
